Our Care

Living with dementia can affect people in very different ways and their symptoms can change and alter in their prominence over time as their condition develops.

At Ashville Court, our approach to dementia care is one of compassion, kindness and sensitivity. Where residents are supported to live meaningful contented lives irrespective of the type of dementia they live with at any given time.

We achieve this by spending time with our residents, and those closest to them. Gaining an understanding of their medical and wellbeing needs, their likes and dislikes and how their dementia currently affects them. This enables our team members to deliver the very best individualised care and support.

By treating each person as an individual with specific care needs it helps us to gain a true understanding of them. We form close bonds with our residents and are able to read small changes in someone’s mood and overall wellbeing at any given time. By reading someone’s body language, tone of voice and facial expressions we gain an accurate insight into how they are feeling. This enables us to provide care in a flexible and responsive way, which evolves with their changing condition. This and helps us to promote choice and independence and help with minimising insecurity, anxiety and frustration.

In addition to long term care, the home provides respite, short stay intermediate and day care services. In order for families and service users to benefit fully from our home, we offer a totally flexible care service.

Respite Care

People who care for a family member often find it difficult to get away for holidays or breaks and as such become tired and less able to cope. Ashville has a dedicated respite care room, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission for single or double occupancy ( if required by a couple) and which can be booked up to 6 months in advance.

Our respite service operates 365 days per year and we are able to help out in emergency situations should the need arise.

Respite can be booked for any period of time from an overnight stay upwards and is subject to assessment.

Families are invited to join in our resident and family meetings and open days which run throughout the year. In addition Ashville holds professionally run group meetings providing counselling and support for families.

Day Care

Although independence is a vital part of an older person’s dignity, sometimes, as life progresses, it is possible to feel isolated.

By accessing our day care services people are able to stay independent for longer by taking part in stimulating activities that are tailored to individual needs.

Our aim is to enhance quality of life by:

  • Reducing confusion

  • Encouraging social interaction

  • Restoring self esteem

  • Regaining basic life skills

  • Having fun

The decision to place a person in care is not easy and cannot be taken lightly. Sometime people struggle to cope at home but do not feel ready to “let go” and pass on the responsibility of caring for their loved one, to someone else.

Adult care services offer the best solution for everyone in the family. Not only the person who accesses the day care, but also for the family member who has primary responsibility as a care giver. Day care offers a break from the physical demands and stress of providing round the clock care.

Day care benefits can be extensive offering:

  • A safe and secure environment in which to spend the day

  • Help with maintaining personal hygiene

  • Enjoyable and stimulating activities

  • Improvement in physical and mental health

  • Enhanced or maintained levels of independence

  • Socialisation and peer support

  • Nutritious snacks and meals

People, who are frail or have reduced mobility, particularly benefit from coming into the home to be given a bath and to take part in activities that they would otherwise be unable to enjoy. With fully trained staff on hand to support them throughout the day.
