Life at Ashville Court

Accommodation – Home Environment

Accommodation is set over 2 floors. There are bedrooms on both the ground and first floor. Most rooms have private en-suite facilities, and all rooms have a 24 hour staff call system, smoke detector and TV point. The first floor is accessible by stair lift.

On the ground floor are three lounges. A quiet reading lounge/ family visiting room leading into the conservatory, a relaxing music room complete with ‘Alexa’ so residents can select their own music, a tv lounge and a dining room with a ‘snug’ and supersize TV.

Dining

In addition to the main dining area there are dining tables in the conservatory and family room to enable residents to choose where they relax and take their meals

Team members sit and eat with residents at mealtimes to provide gentle encouragement, where needed. Meals are shown to residents enabling them to choose which one is more appealing to them. Whilst specialist cutlery and tableware is available to promote continued independence.

Gardens

In addition to the inside areas, Ashville has attractive enclosed gardens with comfortable seating and benches. There is also a pretty courtyard with a gazebo where residents can enjoy private visits and take afternoon tea with family members.

Activities and Stimulation

In addition to the activities that we have throughout the day we also focus on interaction and participation skills by using activities such as :

  • Arts and Crafts

  • Musical entertainment and sing-alongs

  • Mental stimulation games such as bingo and quizzes

  • Stretching or other gentle exercise

  • Discussion groups, books, films, events past and present

  • Holiday and birthday celebrations

  • Local outings – shopping

  • Baking and food preparation

  • Gardening

  • Computer interactive games

As the capabilities of our residents reduce, each programme is adjusted so that the participation levels can remain the same in order to achieve the same level of enjoyment from each activity.

All activities are designed to maintain independence, allow choice and encourage the best possible quality of life.

In addition to activities a hairdresser, reflexologist, dentist and chiropodist all visit the home to provide services for our residents.

Our residents’ ongoing health and wellbeing is extremely important to us and we recognise that keeping active, both mentally and physically, whilst maintaining a sense of purpose and meaning are key to individuals’ happiness and contentment.

In partnership with our residents and those closest to them our team offers a varied programme of meaningful activities. Including events and celebrations which are personalised to individuals’ likes, dislikes, abilities and care needs.

Our whole team supports our residents to rekindle interests and hobbies, whilst also gently encouraging them to try new things they might enjoy, either as part of a group of friends, on a 1-2-1 basis and in their own room, if they prefer.

Regular opportunities to exercise bring fun and laughter, whilst giving everyone the opportunity to stay as active as they’re personally able to. For some, that may be through seated exercises from the comfort of their own chair and movement to music classes whilst, for others, it’s helping in the gardens or doing a spot of flower arranging.

The computer games table in the family room provides a great opportunity for residents to interact and play with. It’s also a big hit with grandchildren!

To keep our minds active we host regular quizzes, games, current affairs discussions and reminiscence sessions as well as celebrating special dates in the calendar.

For those of us who relish the quiet times we have a variety of cosy corners and comfy quiet areas to sit and watch the world go by, read the paper or work on a knitting or needlework project.
